Safeguarding Is Everyone's Business

Safeguarding adults means protecting people's health, wellbeing, and human rights – and enabling them to live free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. It is not a specialist function. It is a core responsibility of every single person who works with vulnerable adults.
For first-timers: You may never have encountered the term 'safeguarding' in this context. This course explains what it means, what abuse looks like, and what you must do if you see or suspect it.
For refreshers: Safeguarding practice evolves. The Care Act 2014, the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (now Liberty Protection Safeguards), and changing guidance all require you to keep your knowledge current. This refresher challenges you to be honest about what you would do if you saw something worrying today.

NEVER promise to keep a safeguarding concern confidential.
If someone discloses abuse to you and asks you not to tell anyone,
you must explain that you have a duty to share this information with the right people.
Confidentiality is not absolute when someone's safety is at risk.

Objectives
By the end: define adult safeguarding and its underpinning principles; identify all ten categories of abuse; recognise signs and indicators; understand your reporting duty; know the reporting process; and understand the role of the Safeguarding Adults Board.
