Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Food Safety and Hygiene module. This course is designed for Carers and Nurses. 

The following course aims to provide you with standard principles and best practice guidelines in relation to Food Safety at work. It is important to note that local policies and guidance should always be followed, and all staff have a duty to be aware of and comply with their organisation's requirements. 

Please take your time to complete this course. To pass the accompanying final assessment you need at least 70%.

Course Objectives 

On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 

  • Understand the importance of food safety procedures and safe food handling in the care sector 
  • Report food safety hazards correctly and outline the legal responsibilities of food handlers 
  • Give reasons why personal hygiene is essential in the kitchen 
  • Describe the best way to clean work surfaces and equipment so that the risk of contamination is reduced
  • Handle, store and cook food safely
  • Explain why temperature control is necessary
