Mental Capacity

Introduction

  • This training is for all health and social care staff who work with individuals who may lack capacity.
  • The aim of this training is to provide an overview of what mental capacity is, who it impacts, when it can be assessed and how it affects you and the individuals you care for.
  • This training will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete with an assessment at the end in which you must achieve a 70% pass mark.


Aims and Objectives

By the end of this training you will be able to:

  • Be able to define Mental Capacity
  • Describe the key points of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Identify the principles and aims of Mental Capacity Assessments and Advance Directives to Refuse Treatment
  • Be able to summarise what Deprivation of Liberty means and how to apply for an assessment
  • Be able to define and implement the Best Interest Decision
  • Recognise your responsibilities
  • Be able to implement strategies to gain consent from individuals who lack Mental Capacity
